Closing Keynote - Special Guest Carl Hooker
Friday May 8, 2026 8:30am - 9:30am EDT
AI adoption is already underway in your district. Now is the time to lead it with purpose. As generative AI becomes embedded in teaching and learning, the real challenge shifts from access to impact. How do you move beyond isolated use toward system-wide coherence? How do you ensure AI use deepens learning rather than shortcuts it? And how do you build guardrails without slowing innovation?

In this fast-paced, interactive keynote, we’ll focus on what’s next: scaling AI with intention. From redefining assessment to strengthening AI literacy and aligning tools to instructional goals, you’ll gain practical strategies to turn early adoption into meaningful, sustainable transformation. As AI impacts the future of work, we should focus not just on what students create, but how they think.

Turn Up the Volume: How to Plug In, Pitch In, and Lead Together
Friday May 8, 2026 9:40am - 10:10am EDT
Amplifying EdTech leadership isn't a solo act; it's a full band effort. The work of the Indiana CTO Council is powered by volunteers who design professional learning, explore emerging technologies, build community, advocate for our profession, and create spaces where every leader belongs.

This interactive panel session introduces attendees to the six Indiana CTO Council committees: Professional Learning, Emerging Technologies, Tech Together, Membership, Social Events, and Advocacy. Committee representatives will share why their committee exists, what they've been working on, and where they're headed next. Two committees, Social Events and Advocacy, are new this year, expanding opportunities for connection, voice, and impact.

Following brief panel introductions, attendees will be invited to share ideas, ask questions, and explore how committee work can support the Council's core values and goals. Whether you're looking to contribute your expertise, try something new, or collaborate with peers and partners, this session is your backstage pass to getting involved.

Bring your ideas. Find your place. Help us turn up the volume, together.

Mind vs. Machine
Friday May 8, 2026 9:40am - 10:10am EDT
From our Keynote Speaker Carl Hooker -
Your teams are already using AI tools, but which ones actually deliver value? And more importantly, where does human thinking still outperform the machine?

In this high-energy, interactive session, district leaders will put today’s most popular AI tools to the test in a live “Promptetition.” Chatbots, image generators, and more will compete across real-world challenges tied to teaching, learning, and leadership.  You’ll uncover where AI accelerates impact, where it falls short, and how to make smarter decisions about tool selection, implementation, and instructional alignment.

Because in the end, it’s not about humans vs. AI -- it's about how we can lead and learn alongside it.

District-Wide AI Transparency in One Connected Platform
Friday May 8, 2026 10:20am - 10:50am EDT
AI tools are showing up across classrooms faster than most districts can track or govern them. From writing assistants to image generators and chatbots, students and teachers are using dozens of platforms every day, often with little visibility into how those tools are being accessed or used.

In this exhibit hall session, we’ll walk through how Securly’s AI Transparency Solution, built directly into SafetyOS, gives schools a clear, centralized view of AI activity across all tools students use, not just one platform. You’ll see how AI visibility connects with web filtering, student safety monitoring, and classroom workflows to create smarter guardrails instead of blanket bans.

We’ll share real examples of how districts are using this connected approach to spot trends, address risk early, guide responsible AI use, and support innovation without losing oversight.

Modernizing K-12 Security: A Cloud & AI Blueprint for Safer, Smarter Schools
Friday May 8, 2026 10:20am - 10:50am EDT
Every CTO in K-12 is being asked the same question: Are our schools truly prepared for what?s next?

From rising safety concerns to increasing cyber threats, the gap between legacy security systems and today?s risks has never been wider. Many districts don?t realize just how exposed they are?until it?s too late.

In this session, you?ll see how forward-thinking districts are shifting to a unified, cloud-managed platform that brings cameras, access control, and AI-driven insights into a single, secure environment. More importantly, you?ll walk away with a clear understanding of where your current approach may be falling short?and what modern, proactive protection actually looks like.

Join your peers who are already rethinking school safety and take the first step toward closing the gap.

Safeguard your data with our Cloud Backup for Google Workspace & Microsoft Office 365
Friday May 8, 2026 10:20am - 10:50am EDT
In today?s digital-first education environment, school districts rely heavily on cloud platforms like Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 365 to power communication, collaboration, and learning. But what happens when critical data is accidentally deleted, maliciously altered, or lost due to ransomware or system failures?

This session explores the growing importance of independent cloud backup and data protection strategies for K-12 institutions. Attendees will learn why native protections from Google and Microsoft are not enough to safeguard against real-world risks such as accidental deletions, insider threats, ransomware attacks, and compliance requirements.

Through real-life case studies from school districts, we?ll demonstrate how organizations have successfully recovered from major data loss incidents?including large-scale account deletions, ransomware infections, and unintended domain cleanups?without disrupting operations. These examples highlight the critical role of having secure, air-gapped backups and rapid recovery capabilities in place.

We will also dive into how modern backup solutions go beyond simple data storage by offering advanced features such as ransomware detection, global search and eDiscovery, sensitive data monitoring (FERPA, HIPAA, PCI), and Google Classroom backup?an increasingly vital need in today?s learning environments.

Attendees will walk away with a clear understanding of:

The shared responsibility model and why SaaS providers don?t fully protect your data
The most common causes of data loss in K-12 environments
Best practices for implementing a comprehensive backup and recovery strategy
How to ensure business continuity and meet cybersecurity and insurance requirements

Whether you're an IT leader, administrator, or technology decision-maker, this session will provide practical insights and actionable steps to better protect your district?s most valuable asset?its data.

Your Stack Is the Problem
Friday May 8, 2026 10:20am - 10:50am EDT
AI is accelerating faster than policy. Students are getting better at bypassing filters. Concerns about screen time are rising. Cyber threats aren’t slowing down.

And most districts are trying to solve all of it by adding…another tool.

This session challenges that approach.

We’ll explore how tool sprawl is creating blind spots, slowing response times, and driving up costs—and we’ll show what a consolidated strategy looks like instead. Learn how leading districts are managing AI, enforcing policy, protecting students, and strengthening cybersecurity through a unified platform that actually works together.

If your team feels stretched thin, this is a conversation about increasing impact by managing less.

So... Now What? Turning AI Conversations into District AI Guidance
Friday May 8, 2026 11:00am - 11:50am EDT
AI conversations are happening everywhere, but responding at the district level isn't as simple as writing a memo or choosing a tool. When AI rapidly entered K?12 spaces, our district faced competing priorities: empowering innovation while protecting data privacy, addressing teacher concerns while preparing students for a future-ready world, and honoring academic integrity without defaulting to fear-based decisions. There wasn't a clear roadmap, and we're still learning.

In this session, I'll share our ongoing journey to build AI guidance that informs, equips, and empowers. We'll explore how we built cross-functional collaboration, gathered stakeholder input, clarified shared values, and developed practical tools to support responsible decision-making. Participants will leave with real-world insights, adaptable frameworks, and an understanding of what we've learned so far-and where we're headed next after having developed district AI guidance with the support of stakeholder groups.
