Fireside Chat - Beyond Firewalls: Practical Cybersecurity Leadership for K–12 Tech Directors
Friday May 8, 2026 9:40am - 10:10am EDT
K–12 technology leaders are facing a perfect storm: rising cyber threats, limited staff, tight budgets, and growing expectations from school communities. This fireside chat will explore how tech directors can move beyond reactive security practices and build a culture of cyber resilience across their districts. We’ll discuss the biggest threats facing schools today, from ransomware and phishing to data privacy and third-party risk, and share practical strategies for strengthening defenses without overwhelming teams. The conversation will also cover incident response planning, staff training, student data protection, and how to communicate cyber risk effectively to superintendents, boards, and families. Designed for real-world school environments, this session will offer actionable insights, relatable examples, and leadership perspectives that help districts prioritize what matters most. Attendees will leave with fresh ideas for protecting learning, maintaining trust, and leading cybersecurity efforts with confidence in an increasingly complex educational landscape.

District-Wide AI Transparency in One Connected Platform
Friday May 8, 2026 10:20am - 10:50am EDT
AI tools are showing up across classrooms faster than most districts can track or govern them. From writing assistants to image generators and chatbots, students and teachers are using dozens of platforms every day, often with little visibility into how those tools are being accessed or used.

In this exhibit hall session, we’ll walk through how Securly’s AI Transparency Solution, built directly into SafetyOS, gives schools a clear, centralized view of AI activity across all tools students use, not just one platform. You’ll see how AI visibility connects with web filtering, student safety monitoring, and classroom workflows to create smarter guardrails instead of blanket bans.

We’ll share real examples of how districts are using this connected approach to spot trends, address risk early, guide responsible AI use, and support innovation without losing oversight.

Data Governance, a Practical Plan!
Friday May 8, 2026 11:00am - 11:50am EDT
How do you turn "data committee" or "data governance" from a binder on a shelf into something teachers and leaders actually feel? In this session, we will walk through a practical roadmap that blends the K-12 Data Governance Playbook with IPS's strategic plan. Cody Stanley (Exec Director, Data Infrastructure & Governance) will show exactly how IPS stood up a simple, durable framework. We'll share artifacts you can copy (RACI/DACI, 90-day plan, policy one-pagers, access matrices, stewardship roles), call out pitfalls (shadow apps, OU chaos, "policy theater"), and highlight wins (faster access requests, cleaner SIS data, trusted dashboards). You'll leave with a starter kit, a sequence you can run in your district, and a checklist to keep momentum after you get home.
